Choosing a major
If you're leaning towards a career in medicine, it is important to know that it is a MYTH that pre-medical students must major in a science to get into medical school. So, don't let anyone tell you what to major in, study what you WANT. Going to college is a great opportunity to grow, as well as get an education. Disliking your major will only dampen the whole experience.
With that being said, most individuals I know in medical school did have a science degree, in either biology, chemistry, or physics. However, I have met psychology majors, Spanish majors, business majors, and others, all performing successfully in medical school. The most IMPORTANT thing, when selecting a major, is to pick one that you have a passion about. I say this because if medical school doesn't work out, you WILL have to fall back on this degree. I chose chemistry because it was the only class in high school that didn't make me fall asleep, and I was fascinated by the workings of the invisible world - enough said.
*side note: If science is something that scares you, either A. get over your fear or B. I heavily advise you to reconsider attending any science based professional school (pharmacy, optometry, dental, medical, etc.). I say this because all of these schools are notorious for their scientific academic rigor. After all, they are training their students to be scientists at the end of the day.
