If you were wait-listed - reapply - AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Also, ask the medical school (the admissions director, specifically) if there is anything you should do to increase your chances for next year. You may also do any of the suggestions below in your year off.
If you were rejected - there are several options.
#1 Ask the medical school why you were rejected. Try and set up a meeting with the head of admissions. They will tell you something, then likely suggest an option below.

Apply for Research Positions and try to get published
Enter a post-baccalaureate program (another chance at fixing your GPA)
- if you do this, perform VERY well
Enter a science masters program
- if you do this, perform VERY well.
Pursue another Career
- unfortunately, this means the school has no interest in you as a student. But never give up if medicine is your dream.
And remember to keep VOLUNTEERING weekly and SHADOWING monthly.
